Light Tackle Fishing Gear

Equipment Checklist

When fishing the Guadeloupe flats for bonefish and permit, we recommend a 6’ light or ultra light, 2 or 3 piece rod with 4-6 lb test line. While fishing the mangrove swamps for tarpon and snook, we recommend a 6.6-7’ medium, 3 piece rod with 12 lb test. Power Pro is our suggested line brand.

For your reel, you want the 2500-4500 series in Daiwa, Shimano or Mitchell. The larger 3500-4500 series will be for tarpon and snook fishing in the channels.

Lure weights will range from 1/16-3/8 oz for bonefish and permit flats fishing, to ¼ to 1 oz for tarpon and snook fishing.

In the flats along the Guadeloupe coast, bonefish and permit typically like the crab and shrimp soft bait by Berkley or Powerbait. For tarpon and snook, you’ll want to bring some Storm soft bait in sizes from 1.9 inches to 4.7 inches.

These are our recommended equipment suggestions if you are bringing your own light tackle gear with you to Guadeloupe. If you do not have the necessary saltwater, light tackle gear, we will be happy to provide you with a lightweight rod that is rigged up and ready to go.
